“Self-Talk as Night Falls” is a series of five hand-drawing illustrations created from late 2025 to February 2026. Using a range of blue analogous tones, the works evoke the quiet atmosphere of nightfall and the stillness that comes with being alone. The two identical silhouetted girls represent “the outward self” and “the inner self.” Across different scenes, they accompany each other, converse, or simply sit together, forming a visual narrative about understanding oneself.
The series stems from my own experiences over the past few years—when faced with confusion or difficult choices, speaking with myself often brings more clarity and steadiness than any external voice.
Each piece includes subtle surreal elements. They symbolize how thoughts drift and leap at night, allowing the inner landscape to unfold freely beyond the confines of reality.
For me, this series explores how to visualize inner activity without relying on explicit plots or detailed characters. I don’t want viewers to see a fixed story; I hope they slip into a familiar psychological moment—that quiet time at night when all of us have, at some point, whispered a conversation with ourselves.
